News Archive - September 2009.

September 17th 2009 - As I sloped off for a week of holiday and the A.G.M. was held, I've placed the resulting 'newsletter' news here rather than type the usual load of drivel I'm recognised for. Please read it all carefully as some parts are very valid!

NEWSLETTER - The AGM was held on Tuesday 15th September at the Percy Hedley School. Your annual fees were set at this meeting and are now due. If you have not paid by 1 October, you will not be able to shoot until they are paid. Please help by paying them ASAP. GNAS fees went up this year but club fees have remained the same. If you have not already paid the fees due are:-
Seniors £50.00 and Juniors £25.00.

We have finished shooting outdoors on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, Saturdays will continue until the end of September.Of course, if the weather is fine, you can still shoot on Sunday mornings over the autumn/winter as long as there are two adult members present. There is an adult football pitch marked on the overshoot so it will not be possible to shoot if matches are being played. We are trying to find out what the fixtures are like as we need to shoot on one Sunday a month for our Frostbite league.

INDOOR VENUES - Percy Hedley School, West Lane in Killingworth (NOT FOREST HALL), will start on Tuesday 22th September at 6.30 until 9.30. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO REVERT TO OUR ORIGINAL 6.30pm START TIME. We use Percy Hedley to shoot a variety of other rounds that we never seem to get the chance to shoot. Priority will be given to the rounds being shot, if you only want to practice please don’t hold up the line. We will also have the facility to make teas/coffees as well as having our “tuck box”.

We will use Churchill School on Saturdays from 3rd October 2009 for “Portsmouth” rounds and postal matches, 10.00 until 13.00 (1.00 pm). AGAIN REVERTING TO OUR ORIGINAL START TIME OF 10.00am. The Wednesday evenings at Wallsend - Burnside School is only used for Beginners courses, monthly Junior and novice nights and other coaching activities.

Indoor Target fees at all venues are: Seniors £2.50, Juniors £1.25. Outdoor fees are Seniors £1.50, Juniors £1.00. Family fee at all venues - Child shoots free if an adult family member is shooting.

Indoor British Archer and County Postal Leagues will be shot on Saturdays at Churchill School, dates to be arranged. We have entered 2 Recurve teams (10 archers) and 1 Compound team (2 archers). For the Frostbite leagues, we have entered 1 Recurve team (5 archers) 1 Compound team (2 archers). Matches will be shot on Sunday mornings at the field, again dates to be arranged.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY? Please follow rolling diary on home page. Annual Presentation Evening – to be arranged for sometime in October. All club members and families are welcome, all club trophies, certificates and other awards gained over the summer will be presented on this social occasion. Even if you haven’t won anything, come along anyway. Any current trophy holders please make sure they are engraved, cleaned and handed to Kath before the night, if possible. Date will be announced at the various indoor venues and will be posted on the web site as soon as it is arranged.

Thanks again to all those who helped with the Tournaments throughout the year, the profit made helps to keep everyone’s club fees down and the club solvent. If you do not intend renewing your membership, can you please arrange to return your club keys and any club equipment as soon as possible to a committee member at one of the club sessions?

If we haven’t seen much of you over the summer, hopefully we’ll see you indoors? Remember to check the club web site for up to date news.

Safety notice. - An incident at another club, whereby a compound archer using a “back tension release aid” shot an arrow out of the range, over a road and through a house window, has caused us to take temporary action pending an investigation by GNAS. The AGM therefore considered that it would be prudent to ban the use of “back tension release aids” on the OUTDOOR range until the matter is cleared up. The tenure of our range is not secure enough to take unnecessary risks. We appreciate this may be an inconvenience to, (we think), only a small number of archers and we ask for their co-operation in this, until such time as the investigation has come to a conclusion. Indoors is not affected by this temporary club rule.

September 4rd 2009 - A review! How did I break the 'contact us' page? Anyway I've fixed it now. Then I fixed the link to the home page and now I realise that the field shoot is next week and not this week. So what I wrote next is actually a load of rubbish!
"Nothing particular this entry. Terry's field shoot this week-end. Weather forecast not bad (at the moment!)." All the competition kit moved off the field to storage (until the club indoor in a couple of months!) August news moved to the archive so have a look there if you've not visited for a while?
