News Archive - March 2010

April 1st 2010 - As promised..... PBs for the Vegas shot on 20.3.10: RECURVE scores - Rob Ogle 201, Lynda Ogle 130, Daniel Gibson 453, Margaret Fittes 411, Mary Rathbone 425, Keith Ritson 394, James Aitchison 465, Alan Bell 473, Mark Robertson 491, Mike Cox 353, Paul Harper 473, Dominic Bell 199, Ivan Stott 452. And with BAREBOW: Connor Rathbone 146, Len Rathbone 224, Terry Astley 288, Eileen Hood 243, and with LONGBOW: Sam Hood 120, Ron Wilson 304, and to close COMPOUND: Andrea Wilson 559. I should add a congratulations to Andrea for scoring a perfect 300 for the Worcester at Green Lane on Sunday last week. Also I'm leaving the 'news' as it is for a week or so to allow any 'catch-up' to happen. Only then will I move it to 'archive'. OH! I've made up a 'tutorial' on handicaps and you can try it out by going to the 'jargon' page, then 'handicapping' then you'll see the link close to the top of the page. I hope you find it useful?

March 31st 2010 - Loads of PB's from the 'vegas' to be announced but I've still to write them all out. Also congratulations to Maureen Ritson for a Portsmouth PB of 466 (I think) 460+ anyway but hasn't been reported earlier 'cos it was done on an away-day to Blyth. However, I'm sure with a load of support Maureen will do it on one of the remaining Tuesday's at the Wooden Spoon?

March 28th 2010 - .... and here is the missing PB from Ann (posted yesterday) A 'Worcester of 158 shooting barebow! From Saturday (yesterday) Margaret Fittes put in a 245 and Mark Robertson a 272, both Worcester. Good luck to all of the club members shooting at Green Lane today. I'm glad we're not outdoors yet as it looks nice but the wind is a little frisky... and cool! However, next Saturday we are outdoors and the time at the field is any time after 1pm. We have the distance lines to mark for the first time this season but that is also weather dependant and if the ground remains water logged then this important job will be delayed. See you Tuesday at the Wooden Spoon?

March 27th 2010 - I should have a list of PB's for the recent 'vegas' round shot while I was away at a Regional meeting, but I haven't yet so please excuse that? I do have the list from Tuesday when many shot the 'Worcester'... and here they are. All 'recurve' scores: Mark Robertson 266, Richard Marsden 242, Ivan Stott 261, Alan Bell 268, Ian Adamson 149, Andrea Wilson 250, James Aitchison 250, except Ann Todd who shot Barebow!

March 15th 2010 - County Champs over and thanks to all who either shot on behalf of the club (nice to see you all) OR helped set-up or take down. Everything was back in storage before the rain arrived! I've attached a link to a Scorton shoot in July. As it happens it clashes with our won county championships (outdoor) but as it covers 'novices' it's only polite to provide a link for those of you who may be interested. I'll also keep it on the current 'news' page as the months progress. And here it is: Sunday 18th July at Brompton-on-Swale, near Richmond. Entry forms can be downloaded from www.scortonarchers.co.uk

March 13th 2010 - Yep! playing again with the web site. Perhaps it was the long wet winter but I needed more colour! The 'hall' is set up for the County Championships which we will be hosting on Sunday. Hope to see many of you there? Now for Saturday's PB's: James Aitchesen put in a 531 and Ivan Stott a 550! Excellent! Oh! I note that the 'diary' shows a 25m FITA for the next round of the George McGowan trophy but it's really a 'vegas'.

March 10th 2010 - A whole week since I made the previous posting and quite a lot to report. Let's start with PB's: From 9th I have Aaron Graham with a 151. (Over 100 for the first time) then I have Claire Fowkes with a 396 (creeping ever upwards) and James Aitcheson with a 516. Well done all!
Next I have results of 'Postal' leagues that we participate within. In the DNAA league up to and including January, we were third in all categories, Recurve, Longbow and Compound. For the Britsh Archer Frostbite League up to and including November, we were 4th Recurve and 1st Compound, with Andrea top scoring lady in the league. On the Portsmouth side we were 5th Recurve 'A', 4th Recurve 'B' and 2nd Compound 'A'. For February I have the following results: Frostbite: Recurve won against Newport Pagnell, and Compound 'A' won against Bayeaux Bowmen. In the Portsmouth divisions Recurve 'A' won against Bowmen of Chrystal Palace, Recurve 'B' won against Chichester Bowmen 'B' and Compound 'A' lost to Bowmen of Bruntwood. In the DNAA Portsmouth, Recurve won V Whitburn, Compound won V Green Lane and no result was returned from the Longbow team so I'll report that result when it arrives.

Now to the committee meeting held on 8th March. On the beginner's course front we are close to having caught up with enquiries. Charlie does plan to hold a course in the 'outdoor' season, BUT, with the weather so unpredicatble it may be four weeks indoors and two outdoors? Club 'internal' competitions were given dates and these will present themselves on the 'home page diary' closer to the date. On June 12th we have no use of the field due to a 'Father's Fun' day for the KYPC. To close, we are to purchase two layered foam targets and stands. This is a trial only to see if 1) they are cost effective and 2) they are manageable to assemble and use. We plan another committee meeting when the paperwork for the GNAS A.G.M. arrives. We also have the county championships at the club this coming week-end and will set up prior to shooting on Saturday 13th, moving equipment to Churchill from storage between 9 and 10am. It shouldn't take too long to set up having done it so many times over the years? Kath has supplied me with the latest club indoor records but these will not be formatted for the site today. They should be loaded before Saturday.

March 3rd 2010 - PB's first: Joan Toman with a new PB of 519 Portsmouth. Excellent score for the club's No1 V.I.? Now an apology to Claire, who I had down as Fawkes not Fowkes, so I've tried to correct all the spellin' mistakes. February news has been sent to the archive but I've retained the following bits for you.

February 26th 2010Over the winter we had planned to make the effort to remove the 'hump'. I've a photo of 'before' and 'after' so you can relate to it. This was created some years ago but year on year it grew into an untidy and weed covered scar. Each year it got a little wider and more space was lost. The result now is that the hump has been removed and posts inserted to keep cars on the parking area. It's still to be seeded but the main work is complete and we hope that the field will look better for it?

February 22nd 2010 - I've received a few entry forms from Cumbria, one for a longbow workshop with Pip Bickerstaffe, one for a 'western' at Patterdale and the final for a Clout in August. The clout and the 'Western' will appear in the diary but the workshop is linked HERE.
