News Archive August 2011.

August 31st 2011 - Another load of tripe! Tuesday at the field was a cool affair but today's report that this was the coldest and sun-less August in 18 years probably seems correct. Tonight (Wednesday) is a junior night although I hope the sun appears for a while. We all agree that after the AGM we will be starting at Percy Hedley again for the winter. Hard to think that it's come so soon!

August 29th 2011 - This entry comes under Tony's Tripe as it's not an official 'news' entry. To echo Richard's 'facebook' message it's a big thank-you to everyone who helped over the FITA Star weekend. I cannot mention each and every name as I have absolutely no intention of upsetting anyone who helped when I was elsewhere and unable to see, but a special thanks goes to Naimh who was given the task of keeping the dogs occupied while others set-up the field. Two hours and thirty minutes later Naimh was still at it hoisting a tennis ball around the field for the most mind numbingly stupid dog to fetch. Naimh left for home (one arm longer than the other) and Richard took over! OH! a thanks to Alan's mum who provided home baked fruit pie that went down a treat when the work was almost done. Finally to Ron who lifted, shifted and photographed throughout the week-end.

Webbed feet were not required for the shoot, but would be an asset as the rain started at lunchtime on Friday and did not appear to stop until the same on Saturday and the field turned into a bog. A little upsetting after all the work put into the shoot. Sunday was 'breezy' but the shoot did complete while only a hundred or so miles down the road the 'National Series' needed to be abandoned due to the high winds. I class our shoot as 'lucky' to complete. We stayed dry for the remainder of the shoot and also cleared up in the dry, somewhat muddied but still dry! Today the washing machine is on it's third load and we appear (at our home) to be almost back to normal although some muddy stains just seem to stubbornly remain.

Now this snippet isn't official yet but I believe that we will be starting to shoot indoors on a Tuesday evening on the first Tuesday AFTER the club AGM. Once I know that this is going ahead then I'll report it offically here. In case you have forgotten the AGM is on September 13th. Now here comes the preaching bit! It seems that most of the committee ages start in 5, 6 or 7 when the odd 3 or 4 would be welcome. Not ALL the committee let me add, but many, including me. Please think carefully when you elect the new committee as I suspect that few realise what goes on to arrange even the most innocent club evening or target day! Committee members do not need to be brilliant businessmen but only willing to do a share of the many jobs that keep the club running. (Sermon over and an end to this tripe!)

August 21st 2011 - Thanks to Kath as I've now loaded the results of the club open onto the county web site. Just look there under the 'google' calendar for a link.

August 16th 2011 - Thanks to Richard we've now got an integrated face-booky-web-site home page. For those who like Facebook then you have an inclusive mini link and for those of us who wish to remain off the grid, then we have a conventional web site. All we need now is an icon for facebook that looks good really small! See you around!

August 15th 2011 - Thanks to all who gave up some time to help with the club open, in whatever fashion! Only twice did the weather threaten to go down hill but did not and we had quite a nice shooting day. The new targets, shot upon for the first time in anger, held up well and once we perfect how to move them without trapping fingers we'll be tickety-boo! Due to the recent heavy rain the ground was relatively moist so any 'misses' had not slithered away and were easy to find. On Wednesday evening a 'junior' evening is proposed and then on Saturday coming we have the final session of the George McGowan cup for this summer! The following week-end we will be hosting the annual FITA star. Due to the Archery Championships being held in York on the same week-end we expect to lose some regulars but let us hope not too many?

August 13th 2011 - New today! It seems that rain in tons has been the most prominent weather this past few weeks and as the club is hosting the annual outdoor 'Open' on 14th then we needed a dry day to mark out the field in preparation. Also we had the job of preparing the new bosses and hope we've covered all angles before the acid test tommorrow? It seems apt at this time to thank all club members who have individually (and in some cases collectively) helped in some way to make the club better. For example helping to source the newer container, or cutting stimming and hacking through the undergrowth ready for visitors. Dozens of jobs all completed but still more to do for the final FITA Star on the August Bank holiday!

Kath has asked if I can relate the following to you all: On Wednesday 17th August the club is to provide a 'Junior Night'. A bit coaching and a bit of relaxing 'fun' shooting. Then due to the rain recently the 'Half FITA' that is the final stage of the George McGowan summer trophy will require to be re-arranged. I'll report it on this site if I hear of it early enough. So enough from me! I hope to see as many as possible on Sunday for the club Open, and I hope it remains dry?
