News Archive April 2011.

April 30th 2011 - I managed to speak to Andrea about the BA lists mentioned yesterday and the standings for the leagues were from January so where I indicated that you did wonderfully well and won........ well that isn't quite true...... but you were winning then! I think the lists with final standings don't appear until May or June so I'll report them when I get info:. Sorry folks.

April 29th 2011 - Royal Wedding day and I'm looking for somewhere to hide! Andrea has sent me the latest news on the British Archer leagues that the club had entered for the season just gone. Congratualtions to those who made up the teams as you won two of four divisions. Just look there from the link above to read it all. Now I THINK these are the final standings but I will check. Next, although Kath is still sunning in the 'Med', I think we have two final PB's (that I aware of), Alan Bews with a 560+ and Ron Mathieson with a 540+, both from the final two indoor sessions at Percy Hedley. From now on, though, we're outdoors for everything! The spring, so far, has been exceptionally mild BUT, it does get very cold at the field when shooting in the evenings so please take an extra layer of clothing. Once the sun dips below the tree line, so does the temperature! See some tommorrow at the field, now I'm off to hide once more!

April 12th 2011 - OK! Here is the latest news. The beginners course evening (week 6) has had to be scheduled later to May 4th due to loss of the small hall at Burnside. Building repairs required. The session where beginners have the opportunity to join the club now moves outdoors to 7th May as the school is then in the throes of exam time.
I will be calling at the storage container this week to collect another dozen leg pins for use at the field, however, please be aware that not all targets at the field are good and have been placed there temporarily before they are scrapped. As we are unable to take these to the local re-cycling tip they will remain at the field for a while yet. Please examine your target boss before shooting to avoid using one of these excessively worn bosses.
The Ladies Longbow champioships has been pencilled in for the 19th April so if you are a Lady and you shoot a longbow, come along and shoot.

Now a safety notice. When setting up on the field please set out the warning tape first. It is easier with two people as it's a long way to walk but due to the increased safety zone now demanded of us, it is the most important step. We've completed marking out the distance lines for metric and imperial and have only the 'target centres' still to complete. These 'may' be done this week, weather and time premitting?
A 'Round Rota' will be prepared for the summer months (like 2010) but the first two sessions, 16th and 23rd April will be for the 'American' round (if you can reach these distances). This will allow those who wish to enter the Backworth Easter Egg shoot to have some practice before the event.

FINALLY! The 'Close of Winter' Prize night is proposed for May 21st at the Killingworth Young Persons Club. A buffet will be arranged and this will be FREE to club members. With that I leave you all in peace?

April 6th 2011 - In the absence of Kath who's on a holiday to the Netherlands (I think) the PB's from Tuesday were: Gordon Dunk at 519 and Len Rathbone shooting longbow at 283 (or somewhere close to that?). I've also loaded some selected pictures from the Indoor County Championships of a few weeks ago. Ten photos in all and thanks to Ron Mathieson for them all. Old 'March' news archived now.
