Len and Terry called up at the field on Wednesday to mark in all the 'target centres' so there should be marks at all imperial distances for you all? On Saturday we held the annual club champs. I should say 'imperial' champs as we have the club half FITA to do later in the season. With drizzle and cool temperatures for the day, it looked as if it was to be bleak but it dried up after an hour and the remainder of the day was quite OK. The results will be announced at the 'Outdoor' prize night which will be arranged for the late summer / early autumn. Thanks to all that came along. On Sunday will be held Backworth's annual open. Looking out of the window now it appears to be quite a nice day.... but I can hear the sea from the house and that's a bad sign! Sounds like an east wind! However, after yesterday's efforts I hope everyone lasts the day? And with that I close until the next news clipping! Posted May 11thI thank all the club members who offered to help this Sunday as I mentioned that I would make the effort to begin the field marking. As I was uncertain when I would start OR if we had sufficient line marker to do the job I didn't accept any offer but still thank everyone who asked to help. I did arrive at 7-30 and got on with the job but, as expected, didn't have a huge amount of white mix, however, I used every bit of mix I could get hold of and rustled up about 10 litres. As we are holding the internal club championships next week I put all my efforts into marking the 'imperial' distances. If any help was needed it was the raking off the grass from the area I needed to line. This was a chore I could have happily avoided but I didn't realise that the grass had been cut for the first time only on Friday and littered the field! Non the less by 10-30 I'd marked the range edges and the imperial lines from 20 yards to 100 yards. As I promised to be home by 10 it was a little late and I had to call it a day before the target centres were marked. That will be a job which we can do during the week as we still have enough marking paint remaining. I'll order another 15 litre container of line marker this week and that should see us through the summer and beyond the FITA Star. Posted May 2nd.Committee Meeting Report: This month was the anniversary of the passing of George McGowan and some time was spent at the meeting trying to work out the wording for the trophies which Edna is presenting to the club in George's memory. A suitable agreement was reached and the trophies will be engraved accordingly. Mary and Len attended the G.N.A.S. AGM on hehalf of the club as we were to be officially presented with the certificate for gaining 'Club Mark'. The meeting, at the same time, agreed to increase fees to G.N.A.S. up by £1-00 and when I learn what the new fees are, I'll post them on the site. The 'Club mark' logo has been included in the site format as we are now able to do so. Volunteer coaches are required to help at the 'Junior' evenings which we plan to hold at Burnside over the summer. The nights are planned for the FIRST Wednesday of each month. The 'Club Clout' which was planned for July 6th may conflict with Newton Aycliffe's Novelty shoot and the Cumbria Clout. As a result the date of our 'clout' will be moved to August 9th 2008. The next club meeting is on June 9th 2008. Spring 'Prize Night'.The advertised 'Spring' prize night was held on Thursday May 1st at Tynemouth Cricket Club. This is a particularly comfortable venue for the club being friendly and of the correct size for a club social evening. The reason for making two 'Prize' nights rather than the traditional one was due purely to the massive increase in awards which the club present. We now have 'novice' club records and this year, over the winter, we were participating in more tournaments which opened up the rounds where club records could be obtained. Add to that the number of members now shooting more than one bow type and you can see why the change was required. The evening started with Terry's presentation of all the club records broken this winter. A substantial number for the previous reasons given. Then the evening moved on to the Internal Club Competitions and the winners of trophies. By now it was obvious that the club committee was correct in making the change to 'two' club prize nights. After this Kath presented all the junior awards, AAS badges and certificates, JAWS scheme awards and the GNAS Winter league awards. Finally Andrea presented the outstanding 'Killingworth Challenge Badges' which had been gained over the indoor season. This completed the 'club' awards but we closed the presentations with the 'county logical league' awards for all those who shot consistently during the winter. Business being over attention changed to the buffet which, once over, had no pea-nut or sandwhich remaining on the table. A sign that it must have been good? Mary provided a 'rolling' quiz which was filled out over the evening and the night closed with a few video races and 'shove-hapenny' plus a 'tombola' table where I managed to avoid winning anything! In due course I shall have to change the 'Prize Night' description on the web site as this format appears to be the answer for the present. |
