This Saturday was 'phase 2' of the winter memorial shoot for George McGowan. The round was a 'Worcester' and all nine bosses were fully occupied! So it didn't matter so much that I was late as the day was well supported. Phase three, is still to happen but I'm not sure if we have decided exactly what that round will be?

Another beginners course has started at Burnside and we hope everyone enjoys it? I hear the junior(ish) members are all contibuting highly to it's success so I hope that they get as much fun from it as those who are trying archery for the first time?

Over the month I've added all the 'Personal Bests' gained, and looking at the list we certainly have logged a substantial number.

Saturday 21st was the club championships. Scores were collected but the winners will have to wait for the 'Presentation Evening' to find out who won. Let's just say that I didn't. The word 'Mercurial' comes to mind.

Please remember that on March 9th the club will be hosting the DNAA county championships. To prepare for this we will be marking the target centres and shooting positions on the sessions at the school before the big day! Also on the Saturday, if you can remember, please use the old stands but the 'new' bosses which should be delivered to the hall at the start of the session. It just makes setting up easier! Otherwise the Saturday club session will be normal and we will set the hall for the DNAA champs after shooting.

And this is all for this entry.

You should all know that the club committee met on Monday and discussed the difficulties that the club has to face just now. First was the loading we have currently, trying to cope with the number of enquiries for a course. The waiting list has been cut to 26 from a high of over 50, but as we only have space for a maximum of 16 per course, (and we are ready to start our FOURTH course of the winter) then we still have a challenge! This was what we agreed! We will keep membership open, even though we have difficulties with numbers. We will keep the 'Startup Equipment loan' scheme. (See next topic) and we will review the number and management of the beginners courses (for next year) nearer the summer.

You may remember that Rod died recently and his wish was that any equipment he owned was to be used for the benefit of new and novice archers? As a result the club will be selling any equipment, to convert its value to cash and the money will be spent re-inforcing the beginners ethic. It MAY be that we decide to have extra sessions for 'NEW' members, and we certainly need a few extra bows for beginners courses as this will prevent 'bow sharing'. The club will also be buying, for club use, some of the things that Rod had. Keep looking at the 'news' pages as things become more definite.

  • We will try to get an extra boss and stand to our Tuesday night venue as we are 'full' most weeks. It will allow use the luxury of another boss at busy times.
  • We donated £75 to Rod's chosen charity, the 'Firefighter's Charity.
  • We have paid all bills up to the year end 2008 and have ordered 400 faces and £1200 worth of new bosses! So now you can see where your money goes?
  • And to close - Burnside is closed on 25th Feb as the school are fitting netting to the side of the hall! AND, It is hinted that for George's third shoot we will have a 'local' Stafford (SIX dozen arrows) but a buffet could be provided? OH! the longbow's from Pauline have gone but I believe that the 'flat' bows remain?
  • Next meeting 9th March.

PB's for the previous two sessions now on the site. Also the latest club records for indoors have been loaded. We have a club meeting coming up on Monday so I'll post anything you may need to be aware of, but I'm almost certain that nothing unusual is in the pipeline.

The first round of the 'George McGowan trophies was shot at the end of January. 'Round 2' still to come! Today (7th) the Club Longbow Champs was shot but I have no idea who has won. This is a suprise for the 'Spring 'Presentation Night'! I've put a photo of 'Sleeeeepy Ann' who was recovering from the exhausting clout shoot in 2008 and I hope you all appreciate it as I got a good smack from Ann for doing it!

For those shooting at Morpeth on Sunday, "Good Shooting" and the next competition is to be held at Walker on the following Sunday!
