GUIDELINES FOR JUNIORS.
We support the G.N.A.S. 'Child Protection Policy' This can be seen on the GNAS web site at 'www.gnas.org' as a PDF file. Parents of juniors joining the club will be provided with information on our policy. See Appendix 'B' at the end of the club constitution page. COACHING AND TEACHING JUNIOR ARCHERS (UNDER 18’S) A parent or legal guardian may teach or coach their own child, on their own, as the GNAS rules of shooting permit. Where this is not applicable, at all times when juniors are shooting, they must be supervised by a minimum of TWO adults, (one of whom must be a GNAS member). If two GNAS members are not available, then a parent / legal guardian must attend, and either they, or the other adult must be a GNAS member. i.e. At no time should one adult take charge of a group of juniors or a single junior (except parent/guardian – child relationship, where GNAS Rules of shooting apply). Parents / Legal guardians of junior archers must be made aware that minor physical contact may be necessary as part of coaching. On each occasion when physical contact is required, the junior must give their verbal consent. Award Schemes designed for Junior archers.
GNAS have a 'Junior Award Scheme' that is run annually for all archers up to the age of 18, regardless of bow type or discipline. JAWS points are awarded for various achievements, and are recorded in the JAWS booklet. This is submitted at the end of the year, and the entries ranked by the points total. Association for Archery in Schools.
Killingworth Archers enter all our juniors in this Association. It requires only three dozen arrows to be scored to enter the round for classification purposes, but these three dozen may be the first three dozen of a five dozen 'competition' duration round. Score thresholds must be achieved three times to qualify for the AAS award. Embroidered 'badges' are awarded on the standards achieved PLUS a certificate from the A.A.S. |
