| March 2008 and I thought it was a long time since I warbled on about some subject and, looking through some photos, I rediscovered those from a selection of 'Cleadon's Christmas Cracker'. Cleadon still hold a 'winter' shoot but these days of the 'fancy dress' christmas cracker have become lost....... and it's time for a reminder. |
The early Crackers were organised by Ann Rush and Viv Davies and were based around a 25metre FITA but you were to wear a fancy dress for the shoot. Not everyone did, of course, but most did. The first few had no 'theme' but then each year afterwards close to the date a 'theme' would be announced and it was left to the ingenuity of those taking part to interpret this as they wished. Not all themes are covered in the photos I have but you can get the 'feel' of the day just by looking at these. Have fun! |

Here you have a snap of the first ever club involvement and everyone went as 'The Chain Gang'. Liz acted as the prison officer, Tony provided the 'ball and chain', and when everyone went to the local pub for lunch more than a few eyebrows were raised. I imagine a few club members will find they look a little younger here but don't despair, more embarassing photos are to come! |
The next one of note was themed around 'Allo Allo' and here are the three judges suitable in theme for that version. And 'Yes', even the judges were part of the idea. Around this time we also has the theme of 'Postman Pat', but I was unable to find any photos of that year. Also you must excuse the fact that my cronological report may not show the shoot as well as I would like, however by now you should be starting to have the feel of it all. Also included on the day was a 'bran tub' which was drawn as the shoot progressed. The hall was decorated 'in theme' and as a lead up to Christmas it became a well supported annual event. |
The next that photos show was the year themed 'Cowboys and Indians' although we did have 'Gangsters and Molls' about this time, and a 'Star Trecky' year where anything Interstellar was valid. As each year went on the work on costumes increased and became more 'professional' and my final selection will show just how true that is! That will cover the theme 'Alice' which is coming soon, but before then, after ten years of Christmas Crackers Viv and Ann decided that it had grown so much it was becoming a year long shoot to organise and although the 25 metre FITA still appears in the calendar, the novelty side is no longer there. Still, I think we understand?
